Nu Shooz is a grammy nominated freestyle-R&B group featuring husband and wife duo John Smith and Valerie Day.  They were on The Morning Sports Page Friday morning to talk about their lives together and their new album Kung Pao Kitchen.

The story of how the two first met is pretty interesting.  At the time, Valerie had been hanging out at a communal household called the First Cosmic Bank of Devine Economy and one weekend Smith had left San Pedro, California to go visit his girlfriend at the time at Evergreen College.  But when he got there, she was less than excited to see him and she sent him away.

On his way home he met up with a mutual friend who showed him a bunch of pictures of the people hanging out at the First Community Bank of Devine Economy.  Smith was intrigued so he went and checked it out for himself.  The two said that when they met it was not love at first sight because Valerie was 15 at the time and Smith actually thought she was 12.  But after a month or two, the two began to like each other’s company.

Another interesting story in Smith and Day’s crazy life is that Day was actually the one who popped the question – not Smith.  Day said the two had been dating for around seven years and she assumed that if she didn’t ask the question then, he probably never would and the two would just date for the rest of their lives.

The two have been together for years and Chad said that when he looks at the two of them he can just tell that they are true soul mates.  Take a listen to the still-so-happy couple’s interview as they share their thoughts.
