Toronto Raptors head coach Dwane Casey joined guest host Brian Wheeler of The Bald Faced Truth Friday to talk about his time coaching alongside Terry Stotts in Dallas.
Casey worked as the Mavericks' "defensive coordinator" starting in 2008, the same year Stotts joined the franchise. Casey spoke highly of Stotts' ability as an assistant while also in Dallas.
"He is one of the first-class gentlemen that you're going to have as far as a coach is concerned," he said. "He was a big part of what we did in Dallas."
Stotts spent the majority of his professional career during the 1980s playing in Europe. Casey said that team-style "flow game" was one Stotts masterfully resurrected while in Dallas.
"If you look at the NBA now, that's what the NBA is -- more of a flow-type offense," Casey said. "That was his idea to come into [Dallas] and make sure the ball was moving."
Last season, Casey also made the jump from being an assistant to a head coach, leading Toronto to a 23-43 record. Casey also served as the head coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves for a season and a half starting in 2005. Listen to the interview:
