Growing up in an impoverished neighborhood can be a curse, yet it can also be a blessing as well.  Hailing from the hard streets of Pensacola Florida, Roy Jones Jr used his street experience and incorporated it into becoming a boxing legend. Roy Jones Jr , Olympic Champion and former pound-for-pound boxing champion, joined John Canzano on the "Bald-Faced Truth" radio show on Thursday on 750-AM. Jones talked about how he got his start saying him being an agitator as a kid made him want to become a professional boxer. Jones says after watching the great Muhammad Ali in a fight while he was a 10 year old, he knew boxing was what he wanted to do. “All I needed was someone to teach me how to throw my hands, and I was good” Jones says.

From his 60/40 fight offer to Bernard “the executioner” Hopkins, to his chicken fights and his attempt at a rap career, Jones Jr one of the best pound for pound boxers of his era knows a thing or two about showboating. Jones was a flashy, flamboyant boxer in his days. Smiling, putting his guard down because of his quickness and his opponent’s inability to hit him and showboating around the ring were just a part of who he was.

Canzano and Jones talked about being a commissioner in boxing and how he would regulate fights and stop allowing the fighters to dictate the fights. Jones also said for him just being in Las Vegas and the atmosphere of boxing is what he lives for. Jones next fight is in Poland against Krzysztof Wlodarczyk and Jones says he is more than ready. Canzano and Jones spoke about the NFL concussion issue and he says his mind wasn’t right from the beginning. The two also spoke about the biggest fight in boxing history that has yet to happen, Manny Pacquiao versus Floyd Mayweather Jr. Despite the public opinion in favor of a Pacquiao victory, Jones thinks Mayweather would beat Pacquiao. He gives the exact formula on just how to do that. Canzano and Jones talked about the difference in boxing and MMA. Jones says MMA is a blood sport and that this country is opposed to blood sports. Canzano and Jones Jr also talked about Olympic boxing and John comment on the Seoul Olympic where Jones destroyed the opponent yet he lost to a bad decision so he says.

Currently, when Jones is not boxing you can find him commentating on fight nights on HBO.

Jones Jr. (55-8-40 KOs), is a four-division world champion—winning titles at middleweight, super middleweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight divisions. He has yet to attained the cruiser weight title.
