Buckner Adjusted to the Times

Just making it on a roster in Major League Baseball is quite an accomplishment but having a productive career spanning almost twenty years is nothing short of amazing. MLB player and Bill Buckner joined John Canzano to talk about his career and his upcoming speaking engagement at The University of Portland.

Buckner, whose career started with the Los Angeles Dodgers in the early 70's happened to be playing left field when Hank Aaron hit his record #715the home run. Buckner talked about the experience with John.

"It was a pretty exciting day, back then Atlanta wasn't drawing a lot of people and then all of a sudden Hank Aaron was gonna break the record so we had a full house, all the dignitaries there and of course Al Downing was pitching and it looked like he laid one in there for him."

After the Dodgers, Bill played ball for the Chicago Cubs where he found success winning the National League batting title in 1980. Buckner talked about winning the crown.

"It was awesome it was a tough year with the Cubs, I think we finished in last place. Baseball's a team game but when you're out of the race totally no chance of winning you still have to go out and play hard and it's a team game but you have to be successful individually to stay around and survive in the game."

Bill and John also talk about Bill's speaking engagement at the University of Portland for the 2013 Diamond Dinner.
