Flying high off of an emotional last-second win less than 24 hours ago in Dallas, the Blazers landed in Milwaukee looking to win consecutive road games for the first time all season. Unfortunately, the team’s shooting percentage took a nosedive in the fourth quarter and the Bucks flew past the tired Blazers 116-94 at the Bradley Center.
The Blazers missed 11 of their first 13 shots in the fourth.
Beno Udrih and Brandon Jennings led Milwaukee with 21 points apiece, and Ersan Ilyasova chipped in 20 for the Bucks, who won their fourth straight game and moved to .500 for the first time since early January.
Just one night after his dramatic buzzer beater in Dallas, LaMarcus Aldridge went 9-17 from the floor and scored 21 points to lead the Blazers, who were looking for their first three-game winning streak since starting this condensed season 3-0. Wesley Matthews added 14 points on 4-12 shooting.
The Bucks shot 50 percent (47 of 94) from the field and were 12 of 25 (48 percent) from 3-point range.
Behind Jennings, Milwaukee outscored Portland 30-11 in that decisive final quarter, and scored 19 of the first 24 points of the period. With just over four minutes to play, the speedy point guard helped extend the Bucks’ lead to 15 by delivering two assists that led to dunks by Larry Sanders, who finished with a season-high 14 points.
The lead was 105-88 after Jennings sank two free throws with 3:40 left. He had 12 of his 21 points in the period.
Portland led 63-54 at halftime, but Milwaukee held an 86-83 advantage after the third quarter. A 3-pointer by Jesuit High grad Mike Dunleavy gave the Bucks an 84-83 edge, their first since early in the second quarter, with 1:02 left. Dunleavy then delivered a pass to Sanders for a dunk and three-point lead with 36 seconds to play in the third.
The Blazers still have not won consecutive road games all season. They’ll aim to start a new winning streak when they host the Houston Rockets Monday evening at the Rose Garden. Tip-off at 7:00 p.m., and you can hear all the action on 750 am The Game, KXTG Portland.
