Ben Golliver: Insider on the Blazers
July 2, 2012, 3:05 pm
Ben Golliver of CBS Sports and Blazes Edge, came on to talk with Brian Berger about the Blazers offer to Roy Hibbert and other Blazers Free Agency rumors.
Brian first asked about the big offer the Blazers have given to Roy Hibbert. Ben talks about Hibbert’s breakout season this year and how Hibbert is only 25 and in the prime of his career. Hibbert would fill a big void in the Blazers starting five teaming with LaMarcus Aldridge to have two All-Stars at the four and five positions. Ben then adds if Hibbert would sign he would team with Aldridge and Wesley Matthews for the next four years. Ben assumes that Indiana would match the deal but it doesn’t hurt the Blazers offering Hibbert a deal.
Brian and Ben then talk about Nic Batum and rumors of Batum’s departure to Minnesota or any other team. Ben explains that the Batum rumors are just that, rumors, and most of the numbers and offers are from Batum’s agent talking to teams. Ben assumes that the Blazers would match any offer that would be given to Batum, unless an absurd deal is asked by Batum. Ben adds that if the Blazers were to sign both Hibbert and Batum the Blazers would still have about three million dollars to sign other mid-level players, which he states will probably be a veteran point guard to help Damian Lillard.
