Portland Trail Blazers reporter Chris Haynes joined The Bald Faced Truth radio show Wednesday to update the contractual situation with Nicolas Batum and medical status of Nolan Smith. Haynes was a guest of Bernard Bokenyi, sitting in for John Canzano.

According the Haynes, the Blazers matched a four year contract initially offered by the Minnesota Timberwolves, keeping him with the team through 2016.

"I think it was something that the Blazers needed to get done," Haynes said. "They couldn't just lose him for nothing."

Haynes also reported Batum's contract includes a $1.5 million signing bonus.

In Summer League action, Nolan Smith suffered a concussion with less than a minute left in the team's game against Houston on Tuesday. He was transported to a local hospital, but Haynes said Smith sustained no serious injuries.

"Last night, that was just a scary moment," Haynes said. "I'm just glad that it wasn't anything serious."

Portland lost the game 99-88.
