In an international friendly at Jeld-Wen Field, Aston Villa defeats Portland 5-4 in penalty kicks after tying 2-2 in regulation.

Despite the "loss," the Timbers walked away feeling better about themselves than they did after recent FC Dallas, Chivas USA, and LA Galaxy losses. They went punch for punch with a Premiere League team and played some energized soccer.

Neither team was able to crack the scoreboard until the 42nd minute when Aston Villa's Ciaran Clark found the back of the net.

It was about another half hour before a team scored, but it opened the floodgates.

In the 76th, Sebastian Rincon tied the game up with his first goal as a Portland Timber.



Four minutes later, Aston Villa's answered back with another go-ahead goal.

However, Rodney Wallave wasted no team equalizing the game when he scored in the 81st minute.


The game ended in the 2-2 draw before going to a ceremonious penalty kick shoot-out.
