May 1, 2012, 3:42 pm

In 1970, Mike Manganello and his trusty steed Dust Commander won the Kentucky Derby by five lengths. But even more incredibly, they won it as a 15 to 1 long shot. Former jockey Mike Manganello joins the Bald Faced Truth with John Canzano to talk about winning the Kentucky Derby. Find out how he beat the odds to win the Roses.

Mike talks about how he felt as he rode Dust Commander to victory in the Derby. He discusses how winning the Roses gave his career a boost. Mike explains why he opposed the inclusion of female jockeys in horse racing when he competed and why he has changed his mind since. He then talks about his relationship between him and his horse, Dust Commander. He explains what happened to his horse after the Derby. Mike also talks about why horse racing has declined in popularity.
