The 2012 Major League Baseball season is in full swing and to get an old school perspective on the game Hall of Famer Rollie Fingers called the Bald Faced Truth with John Canzano. When people hear the name Rollie Fingers the first thing that comes to mind is that legendary mustache. Fingers tells the story of why he grew the mustache when he was a pitcher for the Oakland A’s in the 1970’s. Canzano and Fingers have a spirited discussion on what it was like for Fingers to play for such a colorful team as the 1970’s Oakland A’s. Fingers talks about his disappointment leaving the A’s and going to the San Diego Padres. Fingers talks about the Padres having some nice players but were unable to put it all together to make runs into the postseason.

Rollie talks about his father playing minor league baseball with Stan Musial and also how they were roommates. Out of the blue one day as a kid in Ohio, Rollie’s father came home from working in the mill and packed the family up and moved to California. Rollie recalls the experience in which the family slept in the car along the way. A benefit of moving to California was the fact that Fingers was able to play baseball all year as opposed to only playing during the summer in Ohio. Being able to play baseball all year long paid off for Rollie as he was able to develop his skills to take him all the way to Cooperstown. Listen to this interview with Rollie Fingers for great perspective on America’s game.
