Travis Rodgers Catches the Afternoon FlightFebruary 15, 2013, 5:54 pm Michael Jordan celebrates his 50th birthday this weekend and with Lebron James playing his best basketball of his career right as it seems like he might be hitting his prime, people continue to ask, will Lebron be better than MJ when all is said and done. Travis Rodgers from Yahoo Sports! Radio joined Chad on Flight 750 Friday to talk about that and to discuss everything else making headlines in the sports world. Rodgers implies that as great as Jordan was, we have never seen a player like Lebron. He is unique. “As great as Jordan was and I don’t think that anybody with any brain in their head would ever argue that Michael Jordan was anything other than the greatest basketball player we’ve ever seen…Lebron does stuff that Jordan simply couldn’t do. He’s reached that point like Jordan where when he says “Screw it. I’m taking over, there’s nothing anybody can do to stop him.” Rodgers also talked about Derrick Rose and his decision to not rush back from injury. “I think that Derrick Rose is 100 percent doing the right thing. It was refreshing to see because so often you hear guys say,” The second that I can come back, I’m going to come back. I want to do it for the fans, I want to do it for the team,” and that’s crap…Derrick Rose is taking a really I think mature approach to this whole thing and is saying, “Look. I don’t want to play half a season or a third of the season and maybe be ok. I’d rather miss an entire year, come back, and be one of the top four or five best players in the league for the next 10 years.” And finally, Rodgers talked about the new developments with the Manti Te’o story. Rodgers insists that Te’o’s career in the pros will dictate his legacy. “If he sucks, then he’s the guy that got catfished. If he comes out and he’s a good NFL player, then that’s what he’ll be. If he washes out of the league in two or three years, then he’s going to be that weirdo who had an invisible girlfriend who he never tried to have sex with in two or three years.” Take a listen to the interview and be sure to listen for Rodgers on Yahoo! Sports Radio.
